Preserving a piece of US Maritime History - invaluable

The USS Olympia is a cruiser that fought in the Spanish American War in 1898 and has been preserved in Philadelphia. She's a one of a kind ship, a national historic monument, and in danger. She needs approximately $10-15 million in repairs to keep her a viable museum for years to come. If you have the resources, or connections to those resources, please consider helping. (full disclosure - there is no financial benefit to me to ask the question - we need to save this ship for posterity). Please contact me at 612-599-1935 or bdskon@fedex.com if you have additional questions.

Outstanding news............I just hope they operate both carriers. The idea that a nation like GB would build a carrier, then sell it off is absolutely crazy.

Gates took a shot at Nato - now here's the data - Take a look at this post at Cdr Salamanders's place

ONCE they lobbied hard to join NATO. After Russia’s war with Georgia, they begged for coherent plans to defend them. But now the alliance’s eastern members are finding it hard to keep defence spending anywhere near 2% of GDP, the official NATO target they agreed to meet. ... But others are at 1% or even less, or are unrepentantly heading in that direction.
...
Slovakia’s prime minister, says bluntly that defence is “not a priority”.
...
America's ... defence spending, which, at nearly $700 billion, is bigger than that of the next 17 countries combined.

BZ to the Vinson. As I stated a few weeks ago, the USS Carl Vinson had relieved the USS Enterprise in the 5th Fleet when 9/11 occured.

The USS Enterprise and USS Carl Vinson were on station when President Bush called on them to begin the initial attacks after 9/11.

How amazing it was, and there's justice in this, that it was USS Enterprise and USS Carl Vinson in the 5th Fleet when they finally got Bin Laden.

Well done, well done.

Poland agrees to a permanent Air Force base - Air Force News News from Afghanistan & Iraq - Air Force Times

This is great news! Even though we focus on US Navy issues, putting a permanent US Air Force in Poland is an outstanding development. And the Poles are great people and have stuck w/us.

This is great news, and sure to irritate the Russians, which is icing on the cake.......

I'm tired of their worn out message. W/out their ICBM's, and few submarines, what really are they?

Let me get this right.......one ship..........in the Black Sea, and it's a problem?

I'm thrilled we are guarenteeing the right of navigation for our navy, and thumbing our nose at the Rooskie's, who can barely sortie a ship these days....
