Preserving a piece of US Maritime History - invaluable
The USS Olympia is a cruiser that fought in the Spanish American War in 1898 and has been preserved in Philadelphia. She's a one of a kind ship, a national historic monument, and in danger. She needs approximately $10-15 million in repairs to keep her a viable museum for years to come. If you have the resources, or connections to those resources, please consider helping. good for the Phillipine Navy!
PEARL HARBOR (July 27, 2011) The Philippine navy's newest multi-mission surface combatant ship, BRP Gregorio del Pilar (PF 15) arrives at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam during a scheduled port visit. Gregorio del Pilar, a former U.S. Coast Guard cutter, is on its maiden voyage to the Republic of the Philippines to join the Philippine navy fleet. As a multi-mission surface combatant ship, Gregorio del Pilar is the first gas-turbine jet engine-powered vessel in the Philippine navy fleet. UK looks to send 'Lusty' to Libya
UK military planners are preparing plans to deploy the Royal Navy's (RN's) remaining Invincible-class aircraft carrier, HMS Illustrious , to the Mediterranean Sea with a squadron of attack helicopters embarked to sustain strike operations against Libya into 2012. At least one of the RN's new Type 45 Daring-class destroyers is expected to be deployed on the type's first combat mission to accompany HMS Illustrious if the plans are approved by the UK National Security Council
